Decorative Ceiling Features Add Value to Any Home

A person’s home is typically their greatest investment. In order to quickly build equity in a home, remodeling or upgrading rooms is a safe bet. Not only does a home’s equity increase when you add features, but you get to enjoy your surroundings that much more. We all know remodeling a kitchen or bathrooms will yield the most on your investment, but what about the other 75% of your homes square footage?

A unique way to add elegance and perceived value to your home is to upgrade, or add, ceiling moldings. Think about it, what do you think of when you hear the words “crown molding”? Most people will think the home has those polished finishing touches which scream top-dollar. Ask any listing agent in the business, they will almost always include a mention of crown moldings, when the home has them, in the listing features. This is true for all geographical areas, and especially for plaster ceiling moldings. These old features are new again, and will leave your visitors in awe. Plaster ceiling moldings are typically not seen in new construction. Even high dollar homes which cost a king’s ransom do not have these decorative features. These little nuances are really what set a home apart from others on your block.

If you want to get really elaborate, you can add ceiling: medallions, panels, domes, or decorative brackets. Like cast ceiling moldings, these features will draw the eye of anyone who enters the room. Though all of these items add value, these features are not wildly expensive. Also, and if you want to keep install costs down, any do-it-yourselfer can install ceiling moldings without a ton of experience required. The best part about adding ceiling moldings to a pre-existing home is how little you have to actually do. You will not have to compromise the structural integrity of the home. You will not have to alter wire or pipe routes. Lastly, you will not have to pull permits from your municipality. Think of these decorative features as 3D wallpaper.

As we all know, the housing market took a detour a few years ago. Today, if you choose to believe it or not, homes are rebounding all over the country. Regardless if you plan on selling your home, flipping a recent purchase, or living in your home for the next thirty years; you can’t go wrong with decorative ceiling features.
